A June 2022 Town Hall Kick-off meeting set the stage for a summer of Community Conversations entitled Oakmont Today and Oakmont Tomorrow that would be held thought out the summer. In addition to Community Conversations, focus groups with realtors, new residents and club leaders were held.

Oakmont Today – Over 2,800 comments from over 370 people were gathered and put into seven major themes:
- Life safety
- Mixed use commercial area
- Maintenance and modernization
- Gathering place
- Space for clubs and activities
- Environmental stewardship
- Age and income diversity

Oakmont Tomorrow Community Conversations were held asking participants to envision Oakmont in the future. Ten major themes were identified based upon the comments received:
- A fire safe community including smart and attractive landscaping and sufficient routes for evacuation.
- A parklike setting that continues to reflect the natural beauty of the area.
- Community members that are active, friendly, and involved to continue the make Oakmont a desirable place for future over 55ers.
- Oakmont maintains affordability, and makes smart use of budget dollars to maintain and keep current existing facilities.
- Meeting space and recreational facilities are enhanced as needed to support clubs and active residents. A diversity of spaces to support many types of activities (workshops, art spaces, etc.).
- A successful golf course business.
- A village center where you can comfortably meet your friends and socialize. It
- might even include a coffee shop!
- Enhanced retail and service offerings right in our village.
- Great support for all age groups. An enhanced set of capabilities for aging in place.
A final question asked participants what needed to be done to ensure that Oakmont 2030 is a success. Three major themes were noted:
- Create prioritization of plans with higher levels of member involvement. Create plans around the 2030 priorities, i.e., evacuation, safety, activities enhancement.
- Improve communication of the process and planning. Consistently communicate goals and timelines. Enhance communication channels as needed to reach a high percentage of residents. Leverage existing organizations COPE/MYN and clubs to increase participation and get the word out to each neighborhood.
- Create a framework so residents can easily see where they can fit into the process. Make it simple for volunteers to match their skills and interests with ongoing work.

In August, members of 2030 met with Santa Rosa City Officials to discuss how the 2030 outcomes could fit into the SR Master Plan. They were shown the Road Map and the success of the initiative and given the major themes that emerged.

A Town Hall in October, 2022 established ten volunteer Working Groups based upon the combined themes from Oakmont Today and Oakmont Tomorrow. The Groups were charged with prioritizing about 200 proposals, deliberate and assess the options and bring worthy proposals to Oakmont residents.
- Life Safety
Evacuation and fire safety for all residents. Safe from Crime. Traffic control.
- Maintenance and modernization
Keep facilities updated, well-maintained, ADA compliant and modernized while keeping Oakmont affordable.
- Gathering Places
A comfortable, indoor/ outdoor spaces to meet informally, talk or have a cup of coffee.
- Improved Communications
Enhancing overall access to Oakmont information on activities, events, new and OVA matters
- Improved Commercial Area
Attracting a broader offering of retail shops and professional services.
- Environmental Stewardship
Proactive plans for water conservation, energy independence, sustainability, preserving green spaces and fire and drought resistant landscaping.
- SubHOAs
Exploring options for ensuring the long-term viability and leadership of subassociations in Oakmont
- Space for Clubs and Activities
Adequate space and facilities for Oakmont clubs, organizations and sports groups.
- Age and Income Diversity
Effectively Support the diversity of members across ages and incomes.
- Long-Term Financing Alternatives
Explore possibilities for other funding sources in addition to dues (such as OVA properties with development potential, grants, public funds) to further 2020 opportunities.
