Built in 1963, the Berger Center faces challenges of age, increased population and shifting community priorities. Although several Committees and Task Forces have spent considerable time to find solutions to deficiencies, little forward progress has been made. Here are their reports and recommendations:
- 2013 – 15 Central Project Detail Design Team
- Berger Improvement Committee, 2015 (BIC)
- Central Planning Committee (CPC) report
- Berger Action Committee (BAC)
The most recent of these efforts began in 2017, the BAC studied the existing floor plan of the Berger and explored three options for a future Berger Center:
- Renovate the existing structure;
- Remove the existing structure and build a new center of the same or larger size at the same or another location;
- Repurpose the existing structure and build a new center of the same or larger size at another location.
The report was presented to the Board in February of 2018 and included a summary of the costs, a construction budget and an estimated payment for various loan amounts to pay for the project.
In April, the BAC presented specifications and most plans for the East Recreation Center renovation to OVA Board recommending that the efforts in the Central area be deferred with the exception of work on the Berger Center seismic assessment and remediation (completed in 2019).
